Onsite Wastewater Training Center Activities

- Needs Assessment, Regional Planning: Participate in regional needs assessments with the Yankee Onsite Wastewater Association, URI staff and the Caribbean Island onsite wastewater training planning committee
- Conferences, Workshops:
- URI staff will be presenting the keynote address at the Maine Association of Site Evaluators Annual conference on February 23, 2010 under the auspices of the NIFA Regional Water Center.
- Coordinating with the Maine Association of Site Evaluators, Granite State Designers and Installers (New Hampshire), Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, and VT lake management associations to provide training classes in winter and spring 2010.
- Septic Inspector Training Class with follow-up train-the-trainer event
in March 2010 in St. Croix, Virgin Islands
- URI staff will be delivering the keynote address and an additional talk the following day at the Granite State Designers and Installers in Manchester, NH on March 29 – 30, 2010.
- On April 6, 2010 we will be delivering a day-long workshop in Waterbury, VT for Vermont onsite wastewater system designer CEUs.
- On April 8, 2010 we will conduct a day-long onsite wastewater workshop in Colchester, VT for VT lake management associations. We will be working with both VT and NY lake associations and the private industry sector to develop this workshop.
- New Educational Programs, Demonstration:
The Installation of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Manual, from the Consortium of Institutes for Decentralized Wastewater Treatment, with key participants from NESCI Onsite Wastewater Focus Area team members, has been completed. The 454 page manual is available from the Midwest Plan Service.
- The Glossary of Onsite Wastewater Terms and Analyzing Wastewater Treatment Systems Serving Residential and Commercial Facilities for High Strength and Hydraulic Loading are in development.
- Future publications will reflect stakeholder needs.
- Enhanced Land Grant Partnerships, Research Integration: Submitted request for proposal for a Northeast multi-state Research-Extension Hatch Project on “Design, Assessment, and Management of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems” to expand the LGUs capacity. Plans to address how climate change will affect onsite wastewater treatment systems.
